Welcome to the Oakdale High School Library Guide to Citations. There are three citation styles used at Oakdale High School: MLA, APA, and Chicago/Turabian. Within each style, you'll find instructions for how to cite three kinds of sources: print sources, electronic sources, and non-print sources. Make sure you know what style your instructor is requiring for your assignment.

MLA (8th Ed.) Style is often used in English classes and other humanities disciplines like History and Philosophy. | APA (7th Ed.) Style is popular for Psychology, Nursing and Health Sciences, and other Life and Physical Sciences | Chicago/Turabian Style is sometimes used in the Arts, Social Sciences, and other disciplines. |
When you write a research paper, you will start by reading the research that others have done before you. In your paper you will mention (or "cite") the sources you have consulted using in-text citations, also known as parenthetical citations. At the end of your paper you will include a bibliography or works cited section, an alphabetical list of citations that contain all the information that readers will need to locate these resources for themselves.
There are a number of websites that will help you format your citations in the various styles. You should always double-check the results you get, as the results are good places to start but not necessarily correct.
