How to Begin
1. Use databases from the BHS Media Website to research your topic and collect primary and secondary sources that support your thesis statement. You must use 5-7 sources, with at least two primary sources.
2. Use NoodleTools to complete your Annotated Bibliography.
3. Use NoodleTools to write an outline
4. Write an essay that is between three and six pages in length, using the five to seven sources.
SELECT a topic of something you want to learn more about.
EXAMPLE
Roman Empire
FOCUS your topic.
EXAMPLE
Excessive violence of gladiator entertainment
NARROW the topic by asking a question.
EXAMPLE
Why were the Romans interested in excessive violence for entertainment?
ANSWER the question. This becomes your thesis statement.
EXAMPLE
People during the Roman Empire used violence for entertainment as a demonstration of the political supremacy.
ESSAY should contain.
1. Introduction
2. Thesis/Claim
3. Multiple Paragraphs which contain information that supports your argument including
A. Analysis of sources to support the thesis
1. Point of View
2. Corroboration of sources
B.Address Opposing Argument/Counterclaim using a minimum of one source.
4. Concluding Argument
