UMS Fall of Feudalism: Counterclaim

1. Clearly respond to the question that has been asked. 

2. Be short.  While you must address the counterclaim, you do not want it to be so well-developed that it takes away from the claim/argument you are proving to be true. 

3. As with all other DBQ skills, your ability to write an effective counterclaim will get better over time.

Some people say the fall of Rome was caused by lead poisoning. According to Smith, lead poisoning affected the reasoning skills of the Roman emperors and the ability to rule productively.  However, the main reason the Empire fell was due to overexpansion. As I stated before Rome continued to spread its borders until they were too far away from the heart of Rome that they couldn't be adequately defended and the people no longer felt a part of the Roman culture.
