UMS Science Fair: Citation Help

Citations Guidelines

Citations are an important part of writing. It allows us to use others ideas ethically by giving credit to the person who originally wrote the work.  Citations vary by the type of work being cited and the style of citations used.  In K-12 education we use the Modern Language Associations, more commonly known as MLA.  Citations are compiled usually at the end of the work in either a Works Cited Page(sources you used in your work) or a Bibliography(includes all works you even looked at to help you with your work).  When you are referencing someone else's work you indicate that by using an in-text citation to let the reader know this isn't your work. It typically gives the author and page number of the work so that the reader can use it to find the work easily in the Works Cited page. Example (Domboski 9).
